The Glamour Beauty Festival

Yesterday I headed to what can only be described as a paradise. The Glamour Beauty Festival. The event runs all weekend, with brands from Rimmel to Liz Earle there with their own section offering amazing free treatments as well as great advice (I particularly enjoyed seeing how to really conceal my black under eye bags that you may have heard me moan about before…)

The festival was held at the Saatchi Gallery, which admittedly I’d never been to (but definitely will be going back), where the aroma of beauty obsessives filled the gallery. There were four main sections; hair, make up, skin care and nails, where brands were set up ready to pamper and preen to perfection! I tried to get around as many as possible, but there was so much choice I just couldn’t!

In the makeup section I first headed to Laura Mercier where an artist showed me how to conceal my under eyes as well as any other areas of concern. I bought this little pot of magic, which amazingly concealed my sins from my work drinks the night before.

I then headed to the Nars counter where I was shown how to properly highlight, contour and apply blush…

They developed this exclusive colour called Goule for the event which I absolutely loved, and so felt it was rude not to buy it….

After that, I headed to the skincare section. Balance Me were offering an amazing skin assessment service. I put my head into this box with curtains where there was a blue UV-type light with a small mirror.

The specialist then looked in from the other side to assess my skin. I had this done years ago before I underwent treatment for blemishes, so it really was amazing to see the difference it had made to my skin! The only issue she could see, which she said everyone would have, is the dehydration on my under eyes *grabs for water*. They had a pick and mix type shop, where 3 sample sized products were £10, so I bought….

I then headed over to Elizabeth Arden, where I had this amazing treatment which I sadly can’t remember or find the name of (if you can help please let me know!). It essentially looked like a mini spray tan applicator, which she filled with vitamins and sprayed over my skin. She then went back over when there was purely air pressure to massage the product in. It was supposed to be a ‘Madonna effect’, which for the rest of the day, my skin really did glow. I have to also say that on a slight hangover, this was the most amazing treatment! It was so soothing and refreshing that I asked her to do it again! She said they offer a 15 minute treatment for £15, so I would definitely pay for another.

They were the only treatments I had as the queues were fairly long, but I loved spending time just mooching around looking at products.

As part of the ticket you could also choose a talk to attend. I went to one where Jo Malone, Liz Earle and Thea Green (founder of Nails Inc) were talking about how they started and grew their businesses. It was so interesting and actually really empowering to hear about their journeys. Also, Liz’s skin was literally glowing from around 5 metres away, so I am SO excited to try the hot cloth cleanse and polish. Yes I finally have it!

Now for the best part, another perk of your ticket was that you received a goody bag full of amazing products (a lot full sized!). These are the fab things I received….

So stay posted as I’ll be posting a few product reviews of the great products I discovered at the event!

Would love to hear if anyone else was there and what they tried!

Thanks for reading 🙂

Shimmering Down The Catwalk

London was awash recently with beautifully long legged creatures and a selection of clothes to rival even Alexa Chung’s wardrobe.

One of my favourite shows was the Mermaid- inspired Sophia Webster show, where the make up look created was the most gorgeous glow, designed to mimic the reflective qualities of the water. The models were dressed to look like mermaids, and they absolutely did. Skin looked beautifully soft as it shimmered in the light, accompanied by soft eyeshadows and lipsticks. Stunning pastel colours were just one of the main attractions, with the footwear being of course the main spectacle of the showcase.

Some of my favourites shots from the show…

Make up artists from Benefit created the look which I found so exciting. I love Benefit make up, and to see products in my make up bag feature so heavily in a show was amazing! It’s great to be able to recreate catwalk inspired looks, without having to take out a mortgage! It’s a shame you don’t develop the modelesque legs at the same time…

The mermaid inspired look is a really simple one to copy, just as long as you have a good highlighter to hand. The one used for the Sophia Webster show was this Benefit High Beam (see below), which I use religiously; however, achieving the same effect doesn’t have to be pricey – it’s just finding something that gives your skin a beautiful glow. (In fact drinking a lot of water can help heaps in this!)

This is definitely a trend I’ll be jumping onto the bandwagon of, as glowing skin will always win over the dull days that define winter!

Have you guys given this look a try yet?

Bobbi wins my heart again!

Hello lovely bloggers,

If you regularly follow my posts, you’ll have realised it’s been a while since I last posted! I’m sorry for falling off the blogosphere for a while, but I’ve been so busy I just haven’t had the time! I’ve managed to get myself a job which is so exciting, but also extremely terrifying as I have to grow up and join adulthood (well, kind of)! Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that I haven’t been sat there twiddling my thumbs, but rather have been tirelessly searching for a job! So, now that I am settled back into the swing of things I will once again start writing about my love of all things beauty, as well as some other bits along the way!

For my first post back I wanted to write about one of my all-time beauty heros; the Shimmer Brick by Bobbi Brown. It’s stuck by me through the hardship of job applications and interviews, so I can’t say a bad word about it! It’s one of the longest living products in my make up bag for a reason…

First, it’s a great all-rounder, being ideal for highlighting, using as blush and as an eyeshadow. I use this everyday without doubt as a highlighter on my cheeks as it gives such a gorgeous radiance to your skin. I also use it on the arches of my brows, as well as the inner corners of my eyes to really give an uplifting look to my tired eye area! I’ve also found it good to highlight areas such as my temples, and my décolletage.

The price may seem steep at around £30, but this palette is so long lasting that it’s definitely worth investing. My last shimmer brick lasted well over two years. I managed to convince a friend to purchase one, and she is so happy she did!

The colour I use daily is the Rose palette, as I think it’s great for giving a pretty colour to my pale skin. I also have the palette in Bronze (which sadly I have left at home so can’t photograph for this post), which is great if you prefer a more bronzed – the clue is in the title!

As you can see, it’s well-loved!

Once again Bobbi Brown has triumphed, as this is such a great high quality, all-rounder! I really would recommend this product a hundred times over!

My favourite kind of delivery!

I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet on the blog front recently, but I have an exciting few posts coming up for you all! So in the meantime, I wanted to share my exciting delivery with you..

I’ve been in need of a new concealer, so I opted for my favourite Benefit Boi-ing concealer in shade 1; very sadly I’m loosing my tan so I’ve had to get a lighter colour. I also couldn’t resist buying this eye brightening product which I used to absolutely LOVE. I’m not really sure why I stopped using this product, but nonetheless it has once again taken pride of place in my makeup bag! If you missed my post about concealers, you’ll find a review of this particular Benefit one here. I’m planning on reviewing the Eye Bright product in a different post, so keep your eyes peeled!

What was even better about this purchase was that with the purchase of any two Benefit products on Feelunique you received this free gorgeous mirror! This is such a perfect item to transport around if I am need of a mirror as it folds flat in its case. As well, it has a fab colourful image on the front, to make getting ready in the morning slightly more bearable!

I’m now already looking for the next great product to buy from Benefit….

Why everyone needs a bit of YSL Touche Éclat!

This is my all-time favourite under eye concealer/highlighter, as well as being an amazing highlighter for other parts of your face. The effect this gives under eye bags is amazing, as the particles in the product help to reflect light, giving you a fresher looking eye area. Also, the coverage is really long lasting where a little really goes a long way. I would rarely top this up throughout the day, so I feel like you really get your money’s worth. It may seem a little pricey at £22.50 at first, but honestly once you try this product you won’t want to go back! Having a quick google however, it seems you can get it for a discounted price on certain websites, so make sure you shop around first before buying!

I use the number 1 colour, which as you can see from the picture above is slightly lighter than my skin tone, so is ideal for highlighting to give a subtle glow!

I love this for highlighting areas such as my cheekbones/bridge of my nose/my brow arches to really give my skin a beautiful radiance. Another function it’s great for is as an eye primer. I wouldn’t always use this as primer, but, not only does it make your eye shadow last longer, it also acts to add a lovely shimmer to the eye colour you’ve used.

If you’re looking for a product that not only conceals, but gives your face a fantastic radiance, this is your winner! Would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this product.

10-Step Guide – Interview Make Up

As I’ve had my share of interviews recently, it’s fair to say that I’ve got my perfect look nailed. I know first hand how difficult it is choosing what to wear, how to style your hair, and make up for an interview. Whilst I am all for highlighting your features through make up, I think most of all it’s so important to remain professional in your look, and not too over the top. Ultimately you don’t want an interviewer remembering you for your bright pink lipstick rather than how great you actually are for the job!

So, after extensive research I’ve put together a list of the products I’ve whittled down to be my ‘interview essentials’; as well as a quick 10-step guide on how to create my interview make up look…

**Warning there are lots of pictures!**

  1. Conceal dark areas/spots using Boi-ing by Benefit in shade 2 and Touché Éclat by Estee Lauder in shade 1.

  1. Apply tinted moisturiser by Laura Mercier all over face, blending into your neck. I sometimes apply a little more concealer/highlighter at this stage if I feel an area needs more attention. Dust Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation in Light to Medium all over face to hold. I prefer using this mineral powder as opposed to pressed powder, as I feel it gives better coverage.

  1. Lightly contour cheeks using Nars bronzer in Laguna. I then lightly cover all over my face to give a subtle glow.

  1. Place 3 dots of High Beam highlighter by Benefit on cheekbones and blend. Depending on how tired my eyes look I will also place one dot on the inner corner of my eyes.

  1. Apply a small amount of Benetint by Benefit to apples of cheeks and blend. Follow by applying MAC blusher in Peachy Keen on apples of cheeks and upwards towards cheekbones. I’ve also used a Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in Rose on top of this, as well as dusting all over as the light particles reflect sun, making your skin glow beautifully.

  1. Dust Foxy eye shadow from Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette all over lids and up to eyebrows. I then put the lightest shade (Venus) as well as the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in both the corners of my eyes, as well as my brow bones to reflect light.
  1. Fill eyebrows in using the brown colour Faint from the same Naked Basics Palette. This colour won’t suit everyone, but it happens to be perfect for my colouring!

  1. Apply gel eyeliner by Bobbi Brown in Sepia Ink closely to lashes. I’ve created a small flick at the end of my lashes to give the illusion of bigger eyes. I really don’t think it’s necessary to use eyeliner on your bottom lashes, as it can tend to make your eyes look tired!

  1. Apply two coats of Diorshow by Dior mascara to top lashes, and one to bottom lashes.

  1. Finally, put a coat of Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in Captivante on, Et Voila!

Hopefully you’ll find this useful to get some tips on how to perfect your make up look prior to your interview! It’s so important to feel confident in your look, as you exude confidence as a result, which is vital for getting your dream job!
